  • Joanne Hurley captures School Board District 2 seat

    Joanne Hurley defeated two challengers in the nonpartisan election. She will replace retiring School Board member Marge Whaley. Pasco voters favored incumbents in primary races. Republicans Ted Schrader, Ann Hildebrand and Jack Mariano won their party's nominations in County Commission Districts 1, 3 and 5 respectively. Republican Sheriff Bob White will face off against Democratic challenger K. S. Bogart in November in White's effort to win a third term. And Paula O'Neil captured the GOP nomination for Clerk of Circuit Court, handily defeating former New Port Richey Mayor Dan Tipton 71.77% to 28.23%.

    Primary Elections Day Results in Hillsborough County

    The incumbents win. Commissioners Ken Hagan and Brian Blair beat out their challengers for the chance to secure their seats in the November general election.

    Kevin Beckner beat Denise Layne and Joe Redner to challenge Blair in the coming election.

    Carol Kurdell has also retained her seat on the School District's board, representing District 7.

    Three seek vacant seat on Zephyrhills council

    ZEPHYRHILLS — Three candidates have qualified to run for the Zephyrhills City Council seat vacated due to the early resignation of Danny Burgess Jr.

    Burgess, 22, stepped down July 28 so he could attend Barry University’s law school in Orlando in August.
