Condo complex’s nude pool to give residents feel of Las Vegas

TOWN ‘N COUNTRY—A rental community that is beginning to convert to condominiums in Town ‘N Country is finalizing plans for a nude pool that will bring a piece of Las Vegas resorts to its residents.

“The concept for a clothing-optional pool came after astute market observation, including taking a look at the growing popularity of clothing-optional pools in Vegas over the past five years or so,” said Ashley Norman, a spokeswoman for Eden Tampa, the newly renamed residential community.

BREAKING NEWS - Hearing on Paradise Pines clubhouse building code rules is Sept. 17
on August 21 2008

Hearing rescheduled 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at boardroom of Historic Pasco County Courthouse, 37918 Meridian Ave., Dade City

By Joe Potter
Staff Writer

LUTZ — A clubhouse built in 2005 at the clothing optional Paradise Pines RV Park has come under county scrutiny for alleged code enforcement violations. There are about 81 residents at Paradise Pines, 72 RV spots and 9 tent sites.

Paradise Pines RV Park is located at 20300 Leonard Road, off US 41 and south of SR 54 in Lutz.

The Pasco County Construction Board was scheduled to hold a hearing Wednesday, Aug. 20, regarding several allegations about the 1,800-square-foot clubhouse.

The hearing was rescheduled to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 after county officials said more information was needed. The meeting will be held in the boardroom of the Historic Pasco County Courthouse, 37918 Meridian Ave., Dade City.

An e-mail from Development Director Cindy Jolly to Pasco County Commissioner Pat Mulieri said Jolly had received an e-mail earlier in the week from people involved with the construction of the clubhouse. Jolly's e-mail said "they most likely had the documentation that showed the disputed inspection did in fact occur."

The president of Paradise Pines’ condominium association board, John Greiffendorf, another board member and six or seven Paradise Pines RV Park residents were surprised when they attended Wednesday’s meeting in New Port Richey only to learn the hearing was being continued to September.

Joseph T. Lettelleir, president of Paradise Lakes Inc, had received a notice saying he was required to attend Wednesday’s meeting, but he was not present.

Also, the contractor on the clubhouse, Roger Broderick of Seminole, Fla., was told he was required to attend Wednesday’s meeting. He was not present.

The only explanation given during the meeting for the matter being continued was that other people needed to be present when the hearing was held on the complaint.

Pasco County Building Official Timothy J. Moore did not immediately return a message left for him on Thursday, Aug. 21.

Lettelleir sold Paradise Lakes Resort, or PLR, to John Forier in July 2007. Lettelleir retained ownership of the clubhouse located at Paradise Pines RV Park under Paradise Lakes Inc, or PLI.

Residents of Paradise Pines RV Park own their lots on a fee simple basis.

Lettelleir did not immediately return a telephone call Thursday, Aug. 21, requesting comments about the clubhouse matter.

A telephone number could not be found for Broderick.

Copies of Administrative Complaints filed by Pasco County against Lettelleir and Broderick made the following allegations regarding the clubhouse project:

--Failure to supply a certification of the elevation of the lowest floor or flood-proofed elevation, as built.

--Violation of the Land Development Code and Pasco County Code in regards to failure to supply the required elevation certification, in relation to mean sea level.

--Failure to submit a certification from a professional engineer or architect certifying certain standards of the Land Development Code had been met.

--Occupation of a building without a certificate of occupancy in violation of the Florida Building Code.

--Failure to obtain a final site inspection.

Pasco County has ordered Paradise Pines RV Park residents to cease work on sheds and other improvements they have been attempting to make, Greiffendorf said. Also, Greiffendorf said, the only part of the clubhouse to which residents have access is the laundry room and the restroom facilities.

In 2007, Lettelleir offered to sell the clubhouse to Paradise Pines RV Park for $175,000 without a certificate of occupancy, Greiffendorf said. The price was considered to be excessive, he added. It is difficult to arrive at a value for the building, said Greiffendorf, who added he is a builder. This is because the clubhouse is unique and there are few structures to compare it to in the area.

Paradise Lakes resident prevails to build Navy monument on Utah Beach

Paradise Lakes resident Ray Pfeiffer will soon see a long overdue tribute to the US Navy’s role in the Normandy invasion on D-Day and thereafter in World War II. He issued to challenge to naval supporters to honor this heritage five years ago and he has shepherded the monument from idea to reality.

On Sept. 27, 2008 the magnificent US Navy Normandy monument, which honors the US Navy’s role in the D-Day landings, will be dedicated on Utah Beach, France.

Ray is a Tampa Bay Vietnam-era US Navy veteran. He initiated the project in 2003 and he will be guiding the tour group for its dedication ceremony.

Ray and his wife Cristy are the owners of Historic Tours Inc. and they have been personally designing and guiding WWII commemorative tours since the 40th anniversary of D-Day in 1984.

Cristy and Ray are both children of WWII US Navy veterans.

On Pearl Harbor Day 2003, Ray was asked to address the Naval Order of the US (NOUS) in Jacksonville. The theme of his address was the Navy’s role in D-Day. At the end of his presentation, Ray mentioned that the Navy had never built a proper monument to honor its role in the greatest amphibious operation in world history.

“Naturally the audience was shocked, particularly after I showed them photos of the many US Army monuments in Normandy. I challenged NOUS as an organization to build such a monument. I told them that I could guarantee that the people of Ste. Marie-du-Mont, France on Utah Beach would give them the land and would maintain the monument -- but some organization had to build it.”

Ray and Cristy were delighted when the naval group rose to the challenge. The group raised the $500,000 and hired sculptor Stephen Spears who designed a magnificent monument. It stands 17 feet high and represents the various roles of the US Navy in the D-Day landings and the Battle of Normandy.

Ray says, “We expect about 400 people at the dedication ceremony and it is a major event in Normandy. Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England, the French Minister of Defense, and various high-ranking American and NATO officers will be present. We will also have two US Navy ships and a US Navy band. The monument will most likely be the final one built to honor the American role in Europe in WWII. In addition, this monument is to my knowledge, the largest American monument in Europe.”

From the Web site www.navalorder.org, this is what former President George Herbert Walker Bush had to say: "As a former Navy man myself, I salute the Naval Order for taking on this ‘labor of love’ to honor all those who were a part of that campaign and, most especially, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom."

All contributions to this worthy project are tax deductible. For more information, call (904) 221-0923 or visit www.navalorder.org.

The Naval Order of the United States (NOUS) was founded in 1890 by descendants of New England seafarers who fought in the Revolutionary War.

The Order’s “charge” is to encourage research and writing on naval and maritime subjects and to promote the preservation of historic artifacts and memories of our naval and maritime history. In addition, the Naval Order is also a “fraternal” Order, so “camaraderie” is an equal ingredient.

FUNNY NUDIST STORIES
on August 18 2008

Former ASA member and still a nudist despite funny predicament

By Roy B., Arroyo Grande, CA
Special to Pasco Naturally

My wife and I live on the California Central Coast in a non-nudist, senior resident-owned mobile home park.

I have created two secluded areas on our lot; a larger one in the back where we sunbathe and have a solar shower and grow vegetables in boxes and one between a side porch at our front door and the back porch that wraps around the side and half the back of our home. The gap between the front and back porches is about 30 feet and is planted with high bushes along the property line. Directly behind the front porch is a large fern pine, which has gobs of long narrow leaves that drop year-round and low branches.

I was installing a hose faucet in the PVC irrigation line, while in the nude, naturally. I had cut the water line, prepared the T fitting and pipe ends with the blue glue and was sliding the second end of the T into the cut end of the water line. That’s when I lost my balance. I grabbed a low tree branch, but it was too low to help me lift myself up. It made for a gentle fall onto the leaf covered concrete slab with exposed rock surface.

How could I get back up?

My hard-of-hearing wife was in her room at the front of the home, TV on loud and probably taking a nap in her recliner. Nevertheless, I shouted to her for about 10 minutes. No response.

So, I slid 15 feet on my bare butt to the porch steps and tried to lift myself one step at a time up the stairs, as I had done several times when I fell in the other secluded area. My arms were too weak.

Reclining there naked, legs straight out, one arm on the bottom step, I pondered my amusing predicament.

This is not a nudist or clothing-optional park. So, I faced the fact: I would have to shout for help from neighbors or people walking on the street. Between shouts of "help, I have fallen" and shouts to my wife, I lay there for another 15 minutes. Here I was with bruised posterior, before a woman answered "I hear you. Where are you?" She turned out to be a new neighbor catty-corner across the street.

I told her where I was and she said she and her husband would help me get up.

I pointed out I was a nudist and was naked. She replied, "Okay, then, my husband will come by himself."

At the exact moment the new neighbor came around the back way onto the back porch, my wife came out the patio door onto the porch and together they got me up the porch steps and sat me on a chair inside. Thankfully, he's a tall well-built younger guy.

The neighbor, while asking if I was okay, grabbed a towel hanging on a chair nearby and placed it over my lap. He was apparently embarrassed that he and my wife next to him were both standing there looking at a naked man.

This happened two days ago. Except for a few scratches on my butt that are about healed, I am fine and still laughing about this new experience.

This was not at all a bad experience, except for not being able to get up. I found it pleasant, quiet and relaxing lying on those dry leaves among all the greenery with blue Lilies of the Nile nearby and the sun shining over my shoulder.

Meet Mr. T who likes Italian food, dislikes thunder and talks to his baby

Mr. T loves to play hide and seek with Barbara hiding his favorite toy that is his baby, a yellow stuffed animal.

He finds his baby upon command.

His funniest moment is when he talks to his baby.

Mr. T dislikes thunder and loves Italian food. His best friend is Nicki.

Mr. T was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 1 and was in a program with Texas A&M for epilepsy in poodles and was given a new drug and hasn't had a seizure since.

He is more like a person than a dog and understands everything we say. We have to spell if we don't want him to hear something, i.e., it is thundering out!

Barbara and Tom are members of Caliente & Paradise Lakes. Barbara says, “We work out, swim and dance at both clubs!”

Nautical nude getaways to Sanibel for skiing, shelling, diving

I would love to go on a nude cruise, but the cost and time required have stopped me thus far. That's why I was so excited to discover that you can take a nautical nude getaway right here in Florida for a fraction of the cost, and you may not even have to miss a day of work!

Titz Ahoy! is a nudist charter service run by Master Captain Dale Hayberg. Trips are generally weekend houseboat trips that serve up to four couples per boat. Dale runs weekend trips out of Fort Myers and on the Suwannee River where you can swim with the manatees in season out of Homosassa. There are longer sailboat trips to the Bahamas. He is also willing to accommodate other boating and charter requests. Weekend trips generally run $350 per couple for two nights and three days, and the price includes food, as well as fuel for the boat.

I recently sailed with Titz Ahoy! out of Fort Myers. This houseboat trip was one of the most relaxing weekends I've spent in a while. Cruising at about 6 knots out of a small marina, the houseboat is no speedboat.

It is perfect for the harbor and islands around Sanibel Island and Captiva. The houseboat draws very little water and can anchor almost anywhere, which is important when you are looking to go nude in your anchorage!

You are by no means trapped on a 50-foot boat with three other couples for the entire weekend. Dale also offers side trips to nearby beaches (clothing required), snorkeling where available, and jet skiing as part of the package.

Sea-shelling at Sanibel was part of my weekend trip, as well as learning to jet ski. Watching a spectacular Gulf sunset and eating a delicious dinner prepared by fellow guests was a wonderful way to wind down after a hard week of work.

Although Dale and his wife Peggy do the much of the work, everyone shares with running the boat. That includes cooking and cleaning, helping out with docking and anchoring, and making sure the jet skis don't get away as they're towed behind.

You won't become a captain by the end of the weekend, but you will learn a lot about boating from Master Captain Dale.

Fort Myers is an easy trip that I made on a single tank of gas there and back.

This is the weekend trip for you if you are staying in the Pasco nudist resort area for a couple of weeks or a couple of months, or especially if you live here and want to shake things up a bit with some friends.

The schedule is fairly flexible, with the boat leaving the dock on Friday whenever everyone has arrived. I would gladly leave my cares -- and my clothes -- behind to sail with Titz Ahoy! again anytime.

Titz Ahoy! is planning to set sail again from Fort Myers in the fall, and is open to group charters of four or more couples anytime. Just give Dale a call.

Master Captain Dale Hayberg can be contacted at (813) 323-0520. The Titz Ahoy! Web site www.titzahoy.com is still under construction, but trips with Dale can be seen at www.mastercaptaindale.com

Michelle Cloutier is the owner of Escape to the Sun Travel, and writes periodically on nudist, and non-nudist, travel ideas for Pasco Naturally. She can be contacted at (813) 435-6898.

‘To demand that people tell the world that they are nudists . . . is to be completely insensitive’
on August 18 2008

Editor:

I am responding to Michael Kush and his two letters to the editor stating that articles where the author refuses to publish their full name should be given less weight than articles where the author gives an open presentation and no anonymity.

Yes, it is unfortunate that we still live in a society where nudism is not accepted by the majority. Many nudists have families, grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren who are totally unaware of their relative's nudist choices.

They also may have employers, employees, business associates and other associates where knowledge of the nudist affiliation could cause harm to both their income and business reputation.

To the outside world, that is so unfamiliar with nudism, the notification that someone in their circle is a nudist may bring nervous laughter, crude jokes and general embarrassment. That’s because the outside world does not understand nudism at all.

And now with this blatant uncovering (no pun intended) of swingers in our midst, they understand nudism even less.

It has always been up to the individual to decide whether they wish to reveal their nudist affiliation. And that choice has been honored by the nudist communities where they enjoy a clothes-free life.

To demand that people tell the world that they are nudists, when it might possibly damage their personal and business relationships is to be completely insensitive to the reality of our nudist lifestyle, which is still not understood nor accepted by the majority of people.

Many of the nudists who are not at liberty to divulge their identity still may have very important ideas to contribute to our nudist world. It would be unfair to exempt them from publication because of personal and necessary choices.
