State parks host second annual Literacy Month celebration in September

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) Florida State Parks are celebrating the second annual Literacy Month this September at each of the state’s 161 state parks.

LAND O’ LAKES — It’s a busy times at Oakstead Elementary School, 19925 Patience Road in Land O’ Lakes with upcoming Curriculum Parent Nights this week and open houses starting Sept. 9.

With the start of each new school year, students are once again rushing to be in on time, parents are getting them on their way, and drivers are going about their business, but experts say that all of them could heed some advice on safety.

LAND O’ LAKES — Classes began Monday, Aug. 18, at Imagine School, a newly opened charter school in search of a permanent home.

Original plans called for the school to open on Morgan Road in Land O’ Lakes.

NEW PORT RICHEY — Seven former, and current pro football and arena ball players scrimmaged with Pasco County youth at Veterans Memorial Park in Hudson on Sunday, Aug. 24 all in the name of promoting the free tutoring Huntington Learning Center offers to Pasco County elementary school students at 17 different schools throughout the county. The only catch to the free tutoring is that students attend Title 1 schools, and qualify for free and reduced lunches.
