TAMPA — It’s the third season of summer camps for elementary, middle, and high school students. The unique location on the Pinellas Bayway provides campers with exciting, hands-on opportunities to learn about marine ecology and restoration projects. Rich mangrove forests, grass flats, and shallow waters teeming with marine life surround the property.

Camp activities include snorkeling the grass flats, seine net pulls, animal collection and identification, kayaking through the mangroves, and exploring nearby islands.

3 Chess summer camps begin in June at Berkeley Campus

TAMPA — Three Chess summer camps have been scheduled at the Berkeley Campus.

--Camp 1 will be held June 9 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include swimming, wall-climbing, computer lab and chess.
--Super Camp has been scheduled at Berkeley on June 23 from 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a 3 to 5 p.m. rated tournament.
--Berkeley Camp 2 will meet July 21 to 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with all the fun activities of Camp 1.

All are very beginner-friendly and yet strong enough to challenge even the higher rated players.

Open enrollment for City of Tampa Parks and Recreation summer programs
on May 19 2008

TAMPA — The City of Tampa Parks and Recreation will hold open enrollment for their 10-week summer programs until the programs are full. Registration is held at each summer program site and is filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

The program begins on June 9 and will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fee is $70 for Community Centers, $40 for Activity Centers and $30 for parks. Additional fees for transportation and materials may be charged.

MOSI 2008 summer science camp runs from June 9 to Aug. 29.

TAMPA — The Museum of Science and Industry announces it is taking registrations for the 2008 Summer Science Camp running from June 9 through Aug. 29. More than 70 youth camps are available for preschool through eighth grade students with fun-filled learning experiences through project-based curriculums. There are optional morning and afternoon camps with extended care available. There are residential academies, technology and travel camps for young students.

Kiddie Academy invites Tampa children on a summer-long adventure
on May 19 2008

TAMPA — Kiddie Academy in Tampa offers Camp Adventure for children ages one to 12 to spend the summer exploring their connection to the world around them. The summer program encourages hands-on participation in self-directed activities, enabling campers to develop new skills and interests.

The curriculum is designed to have children explore various themes every two weeks including creative arts, dramatics, language arts, math, science and cooking and character education and social studies.

“Camp Adventure is unique. Not only is it educational, it also offers the children freedom to recognize their specific interests and then expand their knowledge of that topic,” said Susana Figueredo of Kiddie Academy in Tampa. “There are multiple themes allowing children to experience a wide range of activities.”
